Matthew: 6:33-34

33 Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Bible Text:  Matthew: 6:33-34
Title: Make God First

Happy New brethren, all thanks to our Heavenly father for His upon us.  Hallelujah.

What did Jesus mean by this statement ‘and all these things shall be added to you?  To put this in a proper perspective and context, I believe that Jesus words in Matthew 6:25 will throw more light on this. Jesus in one of his teachings encouraged his disciples Not to Worry about the mundane things of this world, he said, “Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?”

There we go.  These things are the basic wants and needs that people worry about all over the world.  Food, shelter, security, economic and financial stability, family, healthy relationship, what college should I go to, where do I live and so on and so forth.  These things plaque our lives and wear us down but God is telling us this morning as we begin the journey into Year 2025 to make Him our priority.

The quest for a good life, success in our various careers, a healthy family relationship are good things to desire, but all these becomes our idols when we place them before and above God.  If these things become our priority more than having a healthy relationship with our Maker, then it becomes idol worship or idolatry. We must not forget that it is God out of His love for us that has made these things available to us in the first instance. We cannot achieve these things by our own efforts or abilities.    In Romans 9:16, the Bible is very clear about this, it states 16 So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.

If this is the reality, why then should anyone make God the second best or the last position in their lives?   James 1:17 reminds us that “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”

This year 2025, make God first and declare like “…but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

God bless you.
