John 1:1-12

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it.

There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—

TEXT: John 1:1-12

Sermon Topic:  The Creative Power of the Word

Take Home Point:  Jesus is the Word

Good morning brethren, as we go about our daily activities this week, I want us to meditate on verses of the book of John and behold the power and authority in the Word and the creative capacity of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, which is far, far beyond any human comprehension. In John 1;1-3 and Gen. 1:1-3, John the beloved points us clearly to the existence of the Word (Jesus/God) before creation.

Jesus had been in existence with God the Father and the Holy Spirit even before the creation of things in the universe and He was fully active and played a prominent role in the creation of things.  Hebrews 1:2 throws more light on this “but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.”  Nothing came into existence without the Word – Jesus Christ.

Colossians 1:16 tells us that “For in him all things were created.” Also, 1 Corinthians 8:6 tells us that we all owe our existence to the Lord Jesus Christ it states, “yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.”  Brethren, there is no room for ignorance. Jesus is the reason for us living on earth today. Don’t let anyone deceive you with any false theory.  Psalm 33:6 confirms that “By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.

John also reminds us of the contrast between Light and Darkness.  The Light is a symbol of life, truth, and the divine presence of our Lord Jesus, while darkness represents sin and separation from God. The light of our Savior Jesus Christ shines into the darkness, and the darkness does not and cannot overcome it.

John 1:12 brings eternal hope to the whole of mankind; it states that “But as many as received him, to them gave he the right to become children of God, even to them that believe on his name”.  A lot of people may choose to turn away from Jesus’ love and embrace, there are those of us who will open own hearts and receive Christ with joy. To receive him is to recognize his authority in our lives, allowing his transforming love to reshape our existence and give us a new identity in Chrit Jesus.

This new identity in our Savior Jesus welcomes us into the family of God, Hallelujah.

It is my sincere hope that you will allow the power of the Holy Spirit to guide you in making the right choice in surrendering the will of your life to our Savior Jesus Christ.

God bless you.
